Hi Coach Steve! We just sent in your on-line registration for, 'Squirt Super Select' for our son Logan and are so pleased he can develop his skills and meet new, like-minded friends again this upcoming summer. The improvements he made (personally and as a young hockey player) as a direct result of your camp and the encouragement given were very noticeable. We knew how motivated he was by the amount of extra ice-time he opted to play in the evening and how easy it was to get him up in the morning for another Heartland Camp day! (Riding his bike everyday to camp also boosted his feelings of fitness accomplishment and thank you for letting him do this as well.) This e-note is long overdue! Brad and I were so completely impressed with how you and your beautiful wife structured your camp experiences for children and families. Thank you and Merry Christmas! Brad and Sue Peterson

Hi Steve:
I just returned from the Adult Camp in Deerwood and wanted to let you know how great my experience was. I attended the camp with three friends who play in the same women’s league in Colorado. I must admit we had a little apprehension being women coming to camp. The coaches we had for the beginner group were incredible (Jake, Matt, Dusty, Nick and Sean). All the coaches were upbeat, knowledgeable, and gave great “tips” on every aspect of the game (especially in power shooting). The coach to player ratio was consistent the entire week and I learned a ton. The on ice/off ice time was spread out perfectly and the week flowed smoothly. I will recommend this camp to all of my teammates for next year and look forward to seeing you then. Good luck in your new coaching endeavor.
Kind Regards, Karen DeLorenzo,

Steve,
I wanted to express to you how excited Nick is for camp this year. With all of the camps out there available to kids - he won't even consider anything besides Heartland. It really has become a tradition for Corey and Nick. I can't say enough about how much the two of them love the experience you provide. We hear more complaints from hockey moms and dads about other camps and Corey just has nothing but incredible feedback to give people about Heartland. Thank you for all you do up there in the Northwoods!

Amy Courtney My son Jake (8) and I had been looking forward to his Christmas Present (a week at Heartland with Dad) for quite a while. Our expectations were high and we weren't disappointed. I'm still amazed at how intense the workouts were and how laid back everything else was. The awesome food was an unexpected bonus. What a great time! We already put down a deposit on next year and I hope its a tradition that we continue for a long time. Steve Thomas Atlanta, GA

Steve Jensen is now one of the head coaches for the Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles Hockey Team. He has made a tremendous difference in the short time he has been behind the bench and helped bring the team to the National Championship, where they finished 2nd in the country. Steve Jensen is a hockey enthusiast at the very least, who can not help himself when it comes to contributing to the hockey community! We look forward to a long lasting relationship with Steve Jensen and FGCU Hockey. FGCU Hockey Fort Myers, FL USA - Monday, March 07, 2005 at 02:37:56 (EST)
Hi, We were at the squirt camp in 2004. We just had a tournamnet in Colorado Springs, CO. My son ran into a friend he made at camp who was from San Jose CA, and we are from rinky dink Casper Wyoming. How incredible to make friends at camp and then see them at a tournemanet more than 1000 miles away.

Hey Steve, Sandy & crew, My son Joe & I attended the mite camp in 2004 (just a few days after 4th birthday), and I have to say it was the greatest experience for both of us. Your staff was incredible, and showed a sincere interest in all the campers. I was amazed at how organized and efficiently everything was run (thanks Travis) and the level of professionalism and high energy shown by all the coaches & counselors. The days were filled (and I mean FILLED) with hard work, great fun, new friends, and of course exceptional cooking. We are looking forward to 2005 (and beyond) with you and your staff. Thanks for all your dedication to the sport and of course our children. "It's a GREAT DAY for Hockey" Greg & Joe Eppy Key West, FL (Only 2075 miles from home and worth every inch!)

Hi Mr. Jensen. This is Jonathan Avedesian. I went to your camp last summer and it was very fun. When I left i felt like superman. I have continued my workouts and I am Captain of my hockey team. Our name is the East Coast Eagles. We almost won the Silver Sticks Traditional Hockey Tournament. My dad and I are definatly coming back next year and we had the best time at a hockey camp that we have ever had. We really enjoyed the food and the ice time. I am glad that your counsolers worked us so hard. I was definatly in the best shape of my life when I left. I also enjoyed that your camp treated every camper with full respect. I am glad that I went and i had a wonderful time. Your Best Camper, USA - Sunday, December 05, 2004 at 16:54:05 (EST)
Heartland Staff, This was the first camp Tyler had severals miles from home 1400 to be exact, I was nervous to say the least. He enjoyed himself so much, made friends, and is already to come back next summer and the hockey season hasn't started yet. My son had nothing but positives to say about the camp itself and the staff. I wasnt able to be there, and he was well taken care of. To me that is priceless. Im glad we chose heartland.

Heartland is such a big part of my life and is definately in my heart and mind every single day. Steve and Sandy, you both have created something amazing and have taught us all so much. I am so grateful for the work ethic that you enstilled into me. I cannot wait to come home next weekend to spend time with people that mean so much to me in a place that is so special. I can truthfully tell you that there is nothing like the feeling of coming around the bend in the driveway and seeing the dorms and the ice palace. Heartland will always be the greatest, most elite hockey camp in the world.

Steve, I was just looking through some old photos and I came across a photo of you and I standing by the hockey player statue in front of the ice arena. It brought back so many memories for me, going 7 years in a row to your camp was the best thing for me. I recommend this camp to everybody who wants to learn from the best. I just finished college and playing with Saint Mary's University in Winona MN and I still used the skills I learned from Hearland Hockey Camp in college. I especially used the quick start, which Steve showed me, that brought my quickness up to another level. I would like to thank you Steve for all your hard work with me and seeing all the great things you are doing for the future of these little hockey players. I wish I would of had all those fun toys when I went to camp, those kids are very lucky. I would also like to mention to you that I just bought a house, I got a full-time job and I'm getting married August 14th. Thank you again for everything and everyone have fun this summer. Your site is a refreshing change from the majority of sites I have visited. When I first started visiting web sites I was excited by the potential of the internet as a resource and was very disappointed initially. You have restored my enthusiasm and I thank you for your efforts to share your insights and help the world become a better place.

Hi Steve et al, I first met Steve in the summer of 1980, when I was 11. The "Miracle on Ice Crew" was getting drubbed 10-1 by Dynamo Riga from the USSR at the exhibition games at the old Met Stadium in Bloomington, and Steve was playing in the "World Cup" of hockey at B.I.G. (Bloomington Ice Garden). That summer Steve ran Steve Jensen's Hockey School at the old Richfield Arena. Enrolled were players from the Edina, Richfield, St. Louis Park, and Bloomington (Lincoln, Kennedy, and Jefferson) PeeWee "A" team", and Steve was a fantastic and fun coach. Steve had a positive impact on my life as a coach and a trainer, but more importantly as a person. My brief and unillustrious post-collegiate hockey career ended over 10 years ago, and now I have the good fortune and pleasure to have a 7 year old son who loves to play. I am very excited at the prospect of having Colden play hockey at Heartland Hockey Camps, and I believe Colden may be the first "Second-generation" Heartland Hockey Camper. It is Steve's emphasis on keeping hockey fun while maintaining high expectations that makes him a special coach, and I am thrilled Colden will get to learn from him. Sincerely, Kevin Kimber P.S. If Ricky Passolt, Scott Jensen, or any of the other old Edina boys get a chance to read this...drop me a line. I'd love to hear what you're up to.

Steve, I don't know if you will remember me or not. At least 15 years ago, my dad, Charlie Tesch, from Watertown, MN began bringing his hockey team and our family up to Deerwood. We came for a multitude of reasons...tournaments, camps for my brother, camps for myself with the other girls from the Minnesota Thoroughbreds. I recently came across an old certificate of achievement which listed my speeds and weight lifting repititions. It brought back many memories of my time spent at Heartland. Your camp made a big impact on me as a player and I am sure it continues to do so for each new player that comes through your doors. Keep up the great work.

As a former Deerwood Devil, I would like to thank Steve for teaching me what it took to be a hockey player. The time I spent in Deerwood was great and will never forget it. Playing with Steves team made me move on to a semi-pro level and I will always thank him for that.It also made me learn what it takes to make it in the business world. STEVE, I MUST SAY THAT WHEN I WAS 15 YEARS OLD AND WENT TO YOUR CAMP, I BECAME A PLAYER. A REAL PLAYER. YOU HAVE, BARRING NONE, THE BEST HOCKEY CAMP IN THE WORLD, AND TO THIS DAY, I RAVE ABOUT IT TO YOUNG HOCKEY PLAYERS THAT I COACH OR EVEN REFEREE. IF ANYONE ASKS ME WHAT THEY SHOULD DO TO MAKE THEIR CHILDREN BETTER PLAYERS, I, WITHOUT HESITATION, SAY "GO TO HEARTLAND FOR 2 WEEKS". STEVE, I AM 29 AND MARRIED NOW AND I CANT WAIT TO HAVE A LITTLE HOCKEY PLAYER FOR YOU TO COACH ONE DAY IN CAMP, GOD WILLING. I WILL NO DOUBT SEND HIM/HER TO HEARTLAND, BECAUSE THOSE WERE THE MOST FUN AND EDUCATIONAL DAY IN MY LIFE AS A HOCKEY PLAYER, AND I DID GET PRETTY FAR. I GOT THERE BECAUSE OF YOUR CAMP NO DOUBT ABOUT IT. THAT IS WHEN MY GAME TURNED THE CORNER. THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME THERE ALL THESE YEARS LATER, AND I WILL ALWAYS RECOMMEND YOUR CAMP TO BROOKLYN HOCKEY PLAYERS. I HAVE SINCE 1989 WHEN I FIRST WENT TO MINNESOTA AND FOUND OUT ABOUT TRUE HOCKEY AND FUN. CHRISTOPHER J. BORGIA BROOKLYN NYC YOU BETTER REMEMBER ME BECAUSE I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU GUYS !!!

My Dearest Steve & Sandra, Without a doubt last summers hockey experience was the greatest time of my life. I have been around the world three times but the trip to Deerwood, was the best. My son Nico is on his 2nd year of Ice Hockey and when we came back from Heartland last summer, his coach & parents of his teamates mentioned WOW what happened to Nico, he's improved so much! He left Heartland feeling like Superman. I am so excited about coming back again in the summer of 2004. We made a lot of friends from all over the country whom we still keep in touch with. The staff you compiled was very courteous, kind, respectful & helpful to my son & I. Ice hockey has taken us by storm & Nico just made the travel team this year. I want to thank you for your inspiration & kind words towards all the campers & parents. My wife Wendy wants to see what all the fuss is all about, she's coming. The professionalism of the staff, and the kindness of both you and Sandra are the keystone of what makes/made Heartland what it is. I will definately be back next year, thinking of adding the additional week. I can't wait til August next year. See you then, and God bless you and your staff. Good luck in all your future endeavors!

Steve, I just wanted to thank the Heartland staff and you for your wonderful training and program that you put the hockey players through. My son Brandon came there in July Pee Wee camp, and came back in and played the Pee Wee Select camp. He improved from the first camp to the second camp dramatically. His mile for the first camp was 9:23, and for the second camp it was 8:23. His forward skating improved from 16 mph to 18 mph. After the first camp he continued do the dryland that he had learned. He now is so excited after seeing the dramatic improvement. Thanks again, See you next year for two weeks, Doug

Steve and Staff, My son was there for the squirt select camp from Aug. 3rd tru the 8th. I have to say out of all of the hockey camps I went to as a child, none of them compared with the fun and teaching skills I witnessed here. My son had a wonderfull time and met some great friends. I want to thank you and your staff for everything, and what a group of young professionals you have working for you. My hat is off to you and your organization. what a fun job you have!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To all students, look forward to an exciting week and register now so you don't miss out. To all the staff, yes, we'll have another phenomenal (is that how you spell it Amanda and Jenny?) week. To all American friends, best wishes from Canada and we look forward to celebrating the fourth again in Crosby. And maybe this year I'll finally find a way to make it there for the adult camp; although, I've been saying that for years now. Keep your stick on the ice, pelle

Steve, I had a great time at the adult camp. It was like being a kid again, just playing hockey all the times and leaving the cares behind. Great teammates and enthusiastic instructors coupled with all the ice time you could want. Stick with the 3 sessions per day format -- a lot of changing but much easier to concentrate for these older bones! I can still hear the "Campers, don't do that" echoing in my ears when I play in my adult league. I don't think I've been called a "camper" for 32 years -- I'll treat it as a compliment! See you next year, probably with my two sons.

THIS WAS MY SONS THIRD CAMP THIS YEAR AND BY FAR THE BEST. THE COACHING AND PROGRAM GREAT. YOU WORKED HIM HARD DURING THE DAY AND HE WOULDN'T MISS ANY OF THE OPTIONAL ICE. YOU IMMEDIATELY PICK UP ON HIS WEAKNESSES AND WORKED TO STRENGTHEN THEM. STEVE WAS GREAT. MANY DIRECTORS JUST LEND THEIR NAME TO THE CAMP. HE DID EVERY DRILL AND GOT TO KNOW EVERY CAMPER AND NOT JUST THEIR NAME. I RECOMMEND THIS CAMP TO ANYONE WHO WANTS THEIR CHILD TO ACCEL IN HOCKEY

My name is Edmund Marco and it's a pleasure to sign your guest book. I work for an advertising agency in London. Our agency represents direct marketing companies that are involved in the marketing of products as seen on TV in England. Most of the infomercial products come from the U.S. but then again we export our talents as well. My brother has appeared in infomercials in the U.S. advertising various products. I think it's hilarious that English people respond so well to American products while Americans tend to respond well to sales people who have an English accent!

Steve : it has been truly a long time since I attended Heatrland. But whenever anyone asks me how I was able to become the player I was and to some extent still am, I respond "Steve Jensen's Hockey camp". I went 3 years in a row, and it's no coincidence that those were the years that I blossomed and was able to captain a junior team before i decided to hang 'em up competitively. Thank you for that, and when anyone ask me if I know of any god camps, I also respond that I know only one great one...Heartland.

Recently stationed here in Guam. Surfing the ole net and found your site. My skating days were a long time ago. I'm playing hockey here (floor hockey) with the local people. I'm interested in roller hockey with an eventual move back stateside and an attempt to go back to ice hockey. Does anyone have any books, tapes etc that will help me maximize my speed/endurance while minimizing my risks of injury in regards to roller baldes? I'm ok, but I know I could be improving. Steve, I will be sending in an order from the store. I saw your player history on www.hockeydb.com. I am from Enfield CT just south of Sprinfield on 91. Where the mall was/is? You'll be surprised to know that the Springfield Civic Center remains as it was while you were there. It has never had a face lift and you can just feel old time hockey and history in the place. From Guam, have a great day. ----Doc Lee US Navy

Hey, I saw an advertisement on Heartland in the American Hockey Magazine. I took it out and showed it to my parents. My dad told me I couldn't go unless I improved my grades. After a vigorous quarter, my hearts were set on coming to Heartland. As I opened the envelope my heart raced with an adrenaline rush I never knew. I showed a large smile as I knew that with the great improvements I was on my way to Heartland. So I can't wait to come on July 7th for the 2 week camp. It sounds like so much fun and I know it will be the time of my life. So it just shows that advertising does pay off! Dan

Well, another year has passed and its time to prepare for the summer sessions at Heartland again. It is always a very special camp for the Razor, Jeff, Jared, Harley, and myself. We always enjoy working with the goaltenders there and I hope everyone is able to return again this summer. And to all the new students for the goalie sessions, you will have a blast. I am leaving Germany in a couple of weeks and will be back in Canada in time to make the harrowing drive. Wish us luck and see you soon.

Hey Steve, I had fun the first two years i went and i loved the camp it was so much fun, i wish i could go back this year but i told a friend on my HS team that id go to the Air Force academy with him. So im going to miss Heartland alot and hopefully i'll be able to go in the summer of 2002. Our Bantam A team came up 1 point short of 4th place in TAHA so we didnt make the playoffs but my high school varsity team the Jenks Trojans won State for the 7th straight time it felt great i had two assists in the final two games of the playoffs. But im going to miss heartland and hope to hear from ya. p.s. do u know how i can reach Tad o'had or Mike Donaghue Thanks BJ

I am interested in your camp for my son this summer. He will be eight in July and has been playing hockey since Sept. 2000. He is "goalie" crazy and definitely shows some talent in this area, but would a basic skills camp be more prudent considering his age and limited experience vs a goalie camp? Also,I'm not quite understanding the residence deal in regard to pricing. Please reply & Thank you!

Steve: Doug and I attended your squirt and dad camp four years ago. If you remember, I was the guy that led the crew in vacuuming up all the water off the roller blade rink after a downpour. We got the rink back in full operation after 2 hours. Anyway, there isn't a quite moment that passses that I don't think of how much fun I had as a 40 year old camper, bunking with my kid. Aside from the obvious benefits of attending a great hockey camp, Doug and I experienced a special time together. I hope to make the time to do it again this summer. P.S. Did your daughter enjoy her stay at S.U.?! Regards, Barry Kublin

Hey Steve and Sandy, I just wanted to say I had a great time at Heartland. I came back to NJ knowing more about hockey then I could ever imagine. It was great knowing some new techniques to use when fighting for the puck in the corner. I'll definetly be coming back next year, I had so much fun. All that I ask, is we want Jerry! If Jerry reads this: We want you back Jerry. Heartland was great, see everyone back in the summer.

Hi Steve, Sandy and all other coaches. My son Ryan and I attended your MITE Select Camp last summer and had a blast. Ryan learned a great deal and loved to fish and go "tubing". Only complaint....he really hated the mile run...too bad for him...LOL. The boys from Maryland and I are already talking two weeks instead of one so look out "SLAPSHOT". The offer of going to a WILD game with Ryan and I is still standing so let us know when you would like to go with us. Oh-by-the-way -- Ryan is 1st Line Center on his MITE A team in New Richmond.

Hello Steve, Happy New Year. We met during your "early morning" visit to Pittsburgh with Dr John Talbot. Enjoyed the training session that morning. Thanks for sponsoring our tournament teams as well. Steve, I have a question. I have an eight year old son turning nine this March. He is in his first year of organized hockey, Mite B team. Next year he will have to try out for squirts. We are interested in the Father/Son camp. He would like to stay at the Mite level for your camp, does not have the confidence to attend the Squirt Camp. Do you have any recommendations to go with Mite or try the squirt camp. Are there different skill levels within the camps? Should he go with select Mite, regular Mite or regular squirt? He has a good understanding of the game, is aggressive, just needs to hone in his skating skills and shooting. Thanks.

I am a goalie for a girls U-15. I was wondering what kind of turnouts you have at your girls/women camps? Are they mainly beginner or what? I have a sister who plays and my parents arent sure on where to send her. So they wanted to know if there are is usually top competion. Also, are goalie's worked with a camps that arent ment for goalies? Or would you just recommend the goalie camp? I would like information so if you could please inform me, it would be greatly appreciated.

My son Jeremy attended your Squirt camp over the 4th of July week. It was apparent by the 3rd day that his skills were improving. We've been home for a couple weeks and he's still doing daily circut training as recommended by Coach Jeremy and Coach Tad. They both made a hugh impact on him. Although the bathrooms can use some work (like having a women's bathroom), we were there for the hockey and really got our money's worth. Look forward to seeing you next year too. Thanks again.

Just a little message to all the goalies at Heartland camp..... myself, the Razor, and Jeff are on the road Friday to spend quality time at Heartland again with all the great Canadian and American goalies. If you are new to the goalie sessions, you'll have a blast. To those who have been with us before, see you next week and I hope the winter was the best season ever. I am PUMPED to be coming to Heartland again to work with all the goalies again. (Don't forget to slip some of that American money in my pocket once in a while....our money is not worth much these days compared to yours.....hahaha) See you all in a few days... Cheers pelle

Hi Steve and Sandy, I just wanted to say that my son zack has been going to your camp for the past 4 years. The first year he went to the Spooner camp and since has went to the Deerwood camp. He has never made an a team until this past year. We have noticed the improvement every year. I don't know what you do there but it must be working. I think some kids are just naturals at it and others really have to work at it. Zack has never been a natural but he seems to be coming into his own. Now we just have to deal with the 13 year old attitude. Well thanks for all you have done Steve.

I attended your camp when I was a Mite (I was age 7 then. I really liked your camp, your location and your training style, but you were having a lot of trouble keeping the ice frozen, and the cafeteria ran out of food a couple of times. So I tried some other hockey camps over the past vie years. Glad to see that you've updated your facilities, because your location and training are my favorite. I'd like to come back this summer. Now I am turning 14 and will be a first-year Bantum in the Fall 2000. (I was a second-year "Pee Wee A" player this past year. I have played Left Wing, Center and Defense positions since I was 5 years old.) Should I sign up for a Pee Wee camp or a Bantam camp? What is the difference between plain Bantum, "Bantum 2," "Bantum Select" and "Bantum Super Select" ??? I would like to sign up with a friend who is the same age as I am. Please email me about which hockey camp level I should do and whether any of the Pee Wee or Bantum weeks are already filled. Thanks. Pete Johnson

Hey Steve, came across your site while looking for vacation spots (go figure) and thought I'd say, "Hi." It's been almost 10 years now since the Heartland Winterhawks' first season, but even now I think about what a positive impact that experience had on my life. While I never turned out to be much of a hockey player (what a surprise!), I did find a new and more success-filled calling on Wall Street as a derivatives trader (I was always more of a geek anyway!). My time at Heartland truly helped shape my life and for that I thank you! All the best and continued success. Warm regards, Hannes

During my evaluation of the wide variety of camps available I can't help but to reflect on our experience there last summer during the squirt select camp and how you influence my son. He came away from that camp with a very positive experience and when we were talking the other day about which camp to go to he said Heartland no other. Your a great person and teacher you truely made the difference . One comment that you made several times that I have used was " to be a good hockey player you must be a smart hockey player" how true that is and you have made such a difference. I need info on the summer squirt select camps ASAP. Best regards; Joe Iwaniec

We are looking for a summer camp for my son, who wants to try out for the highschool ice hockey team next year. He played one year when he was younger and has been playing roller hockey for the past two seasons. Ever since he played ice hockey, he's told us he's going to college somewhere up north to play ice hockey. Memphis does not have alot to offer in ice, but we have had highschool ice hockey for the past two years. We as parents feel we need to give our son the opportunity to try. So we want to give him a fair chance in tryouts next year by sending him to a hockey camp that can improve/enhance his skills, speed, power, etc. He will be a freshman next year competing against older kids, so we would like for him to attend a highschool camp. I would like a brochure for 1999. Thanks

Hi Steve, My son Evan enjoyed his week last year. We are trying to return this summer if I can get the time off from work. A few weeks ago, while playing for the Ramapo Saints ( Ramapo, NY) Evan was on a breakaway, When he was about 15 feet from the goal, the goalie moved forward to challange him. He then was tripped from behind by another player. The goalie dropped. As Evanwas falling to the ice, he flicked the puck up. It hit the goalie in the helmet and rolled down his back and into the goal. When he got up he yelled "just like Steve!" I thought you might have a chuckle over this one. Hope to see you this summer. Steve, Wanted to drop you a note to let you know how thrilled my son, my husband and I were with your camp. The Mite counselors, and program were fabulous. You have done a fine job in staffing and age appropriate program development. We have seen a significant increase in Cory's skills and dedication to development since attending Heartland. He has exuberantly continued his dryland and circuit training in addition to his ice training. Sandy's meals were second to none! Send our best to T.J., Vic, Turtle, Jacob, John, and Todd. The kids loved them and they did an extraordinary job creating a fun, challenging, and respectful learning environment. I honestly believe experiences at the Mite age will make or break a child's spirit. The staff at Heartland sent each of our children home with an increased love of the game and respect for what it takes to be your personal best. We couldn't ask for more and look forward to our up coming amateur hockey season. We will definitely be back next year! Signed "Missing you guys already!" I have attended this camp for 6 years. And everytime I go I come out with more knowledge about the game and I am an all around better hockey player. This camp teaches you discipline, helps you mature, and pushes you to your limits. I am looking forward to this coming summer! Thanks for the memories, see you soon!
